Adeus, Ate Proxima, Peace Out (and In)

It's strange to be writing this last blogpost in Germany, using a hostel computer, mistyping on a weird keyboard, trying to make sense of the German menu buttons ('speichem' for save?  'schließen' for close?).  But the situation is also apt, this whole sense of being out of place while at the same time trying to come up with some overarching meaning of my Peace Corps service in Chimoio and Cuamba in Mozambique these last two years, and in Praia, Cape Verde three years ago.  It seems to me that a great part of my service has been figuring out the significance amidst a lot of confusion and frustration and disappointment and a bunch of other, well, negative emotions.

Two years ago, I said in a blogpost/article about the closing of PC Cape Verde that after Mozambique, maybe, it will all make sense.  I do not want this last blogpost to be about lessons learned, insights gained, moments wrapped up nice and tidy.  I just finished looking through pics from Moz, and saudade is hitting me much earlier than I expected.  I can't believe it.  There were so many moments in 2014 that were unbearable, that I can't believe I'm actually thinking I should've stayed for another year.  But the pics transport me from this German winter to tropical Mozambique. I'm not sure if I'm remembering the intense heat, the sand, the dirt, the sweat, or if I'm just imagining it all.  But I am certain of the sadness and the happiness both inside. . .  So.  On this penultimate day of 2014, before much time passes and the feeling fades, I just want to say: I'm happy to have met each and everyone of you.

From Berlin, with gratitude, love and affection, see you all on the other side.
